Culture Clash

The BBC recently published an article about Americanisms, examining American words/phrases just starting to drift into common use in the UK. It was so popular that it prompted thousands of online submissions and inspired another article listing the 50 Most Noted Examples of [Annoying] Americanisms. The second article is hilarious and perfectly British, but it’s also full of close observations of how we Americans stick out through our language just as much as our behavior. It’s kind of fun to see some of my own pet peeves on the list, too – wish I could forward it to some of the particularly annoying repeat offenders I know!
